John Zelenka

Managing Director of National Partnership Development

A native New Yorker, John brings nearly 20 years of professional leadership experience in social impact, philanthropy, fundraising, relationship management, and partnership development to the iMentor team as MD of National Partnership Development.

John is a lifelong relationship builder who often serves as a trusted advisor collaborating cross-functionally to achieve goals. John enjoys driving organizational strategies that advance growth, giving, and community reputations for non-profit and for-profit organizations alike and holds both undergraduate and MBA degrees from Cornell University.

Professionally, John spent most of his career on the development team at Cornell, first in Principal Gifts and then in various roles in the New York City/Northeast regional office. At Cornell, John launched a community engagement and fundraising program focused on the financial community (Cornell Wall Street) and worked closely with the entrepreneurial business communities across the country (Cornell Silicon Valley/Cornell Entrepreneur Network). John has also been business development and growth advisor for several young start-ups via his consulting company, KJZ Impact LLC, and led fundraising/donor engagement/partnership development at two social impact non-profits in New York City, focusing on improving high school education across the US (BUILD and The Future Project). Most recently, John was the Interim Director of Philanthropy and Individual Giving Manager in the US office of the Lumos Foundation, founded by J.K. Rowling, responsible for overseeing the development, fundraising, stewardship, and event efforts throughout the US.

On a personal front, he is the proud husband of a classically trained opera singer/teacher/small business owner and a dad to a three-year-old daughter. He and his family enjoy traveling, being at the beach, spending time with family and friends, and anything in the performing arts – especially the Metropolitan Opera and on Broadway.
