Cynthia Olson

Managing Director of Communications

As Managing Director of Communications, Cynthia oversees media and external relations, marketing strategy, brand and messaging to best articulate iMentor’s impact within the education and college success landscape and to tell the stories of our students and mentors.

Cynthia brings to her role over 15 years’ experience working to advance social justice and economic equality. Previous to iMentor, Cynthia was Director of Communication for the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, where she advised and led messaging and promotion for City Hall-led initiatives focused on youth employment; immigration rights; and improving community health outcomes for underserved New York City communities. She has expertise leading message and story development, crisis communications, and media and digital strategies with national nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. Cynthia has held leadership positions with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, Mercy Corps, Planned Parenthood of New York City, and the Nike Foundation for Girls.

As part of the first generation in her family to graduate college, Cynthia is driven by an interest in building more equitable civic systems and telling the stories of historically overlooked populations. She volunteers within her community with senior citizens, was a founding board member of Minds Matter, NYC, and an advisor to the Amnesty International Human Rights Scholarship Fund. She holds a B.A. from George Mason University and M.A. from the University of Edinburgh, UK.
