Each year thousands of mentors not only give their time but also go above and beyond to ensure iMentor has the funds necessary to continue to serve our students. Their support and advocacy are crucial to our work, and essential to ensuring iMentor can continue to support students in the Bay Area, Chicago, and New York City each year.

Adam Metauro
A mentor since 2012, Adam has been paired with Alexis at the Bronx Leadership Academy for the past three years. This spring, Adam turned a personal goal of running the New York City Half Marathon into an opportunity for greater impact by raising funds for iMentor. He also hosted a charity spin class for 30 people at Equinox, together raising more than $1,000 and meeting the group’s goal of supporting a mentor-mentee pair for an entire year.
That’s not all—Adam is also a member of iMentor NYC’s Young Executive Board (YEB) and led his company’s corporate partnership with iMentor, personally raising more than $10,000 during the iMentor Challenge in March.
“In fundraising, you can only ask your friends, family, and colleagues so many times to contribute,” said Adam. “Hosting a spin event with a specific date, time, suggested donation and an exchange of value gave me one more reason to reach out to my networks.” Most importantly, Adam added, the event was a chance for friends of friends to learn more about iMentor and an opportunity to recruit a few more volunteer mentors along the way.
Uma Krishnan
Uma has been an iMentor volunteer since 2012. She has worked with multiple mentees in our program, but that’s not her only milestone—last year Uma celebrated her 30th birthday! And instead of asking for gifts, she held a fundraiser for iMentor. Uma dedicated her birthday to iMentor's mission because she believes that every student deserves a champion, and she wants to ensure more students are matched with mentors. Uma's goal was to support one pair next year by raising $1,000. She surpassed her goal and raised $1,310! We could not be more thankful for her contribution.
Ashley Gushue
Ashley first started volunteering with iMentor in 2010. Two mentees later, she is now both a volunteer and a member of the YEB. As a YEB member, Ashley recently hosted an event at her employer’s office, Google. Supporters, students, and mentors were invited to discuss diversifying the STEM talent pipeline through the tech and finance industries.
One college student in attendance, Noel, shared: “Thank you iMentor for having me at this event at Google. Everyone in this, and the ones that aren’t, are people who are successful and want to make a change for us young people. That is what I’m going to do!”
