In recognition of our longstanding relationship with Citi and the Citi Foundation, NYC mentors and students were invited for iMentor Night at Citi Field in Flushing, NY this spring.
Volunteer mentors from Citi and their mentees took in a game together as the New York Mets won 11-2 over the Miami Marlins, and iMentor was invited onto the field and acknowledged in a jumbotron announcement celebrating the partnership between Citi and the nonprofit organization.
When the opportunity to watch the Mets play at Citi Field arose, Citi employee and mentor Raul Rodriguez jumped at the chance. As a volunteer baseball coach and former little league player, Raul holds a special place in his heart for baseball. Arriving before the game, Raul and his mentee Daniel, an 11th grader at Marble Hill School for International Studies in the Bronx, watched batting practice and got their baseballs autographed by Mets left fielder Brandon Nimmo as well as Miami Marlins second baseman Starlin Castro.
Adding to Raul's excitement, he and Daniel were featured on the jumbo screen during the pre-game shout-outs for iMentor and Citi. “Being a mentor is a way for me to give back,” said Raul. “I have mentors [in my life] and they have helped me tremendously.”
Mentor Lindsey Knepshield also attended the event with her mentee, Kayla a junior at Lyons Community High School at Lafayette in Brooklyn, NY. "This is a really cool event and makes for an incredible end of the year celebration," said Lindsey.
Maya Salwen, who has been a mentor for one year, enjoyed sharing the special evening with her mentee, Jin, a sophomore at Marble Hill School for International Studies. “I was looking for a way to make a difference,” she said, “and the iMentor timeline [from high school to college and beyond] gives you opportunities to make a meaningful impact on someone’s life.”
