National Mentoring Month 2016

Happy 2016! At iMentor, we look forward to January, not only because it’s a time to start fresh but also because it’s National Mentoring Month!

National Mentoring Month is a time when mentoring organizations, individuals, nonprofits, supporters, and volunteers come together to build awareness of the power of mentoring relationships. It’s a time to recruit new volunteers, thank existing volunteers, and celebrate our successes in the field.

There are a number of ways YOU can support iMentor during National Mentoring Month 2016:

1. “I am a Mentor Day”

“I am a Mentor Day” is Thursday, January 14, and we encourage you to talk about your experience as a volunteer mentor. Share your story on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hashtag #IAmAMentor. Be sure to tag us so we’ll see it! We are @iMentor on Twitter and @iMentorOrg on Instagram. To get you started, click here to change your profile picture for the day. Then share the orange image above to your social networks so all your friends know about the amazing work you do as a volunteer mentor.

2. #Mentor4Success Chat

iMentor is excited to host our first live Twitter Chat on Tuesday, January 19! We will be Tweeting questions at 3 p.m. EST and hope you’ll join us there. Everyone is welcome to participate and share their experiences with iMentor as a volunteer or partner with iMentor or any other mentoring program that helps young people succeed in college and beyond. This is also an opportunity for you to learn more about our successes and connect with other organizations who are making an impact across the country. We will be discussing the State of Mentoring, a Deep Dive into the Chicago Mentoring Scene, and the Impact of Mentoring. Be sure to follow us on Twitter so you can join the conversation!

3. “Thank Your Mentor Day”

“Thank Your Mentor Day” is Thursday, January 21. You likely agree that every successful person has a mentor to thank for helping them along. Maybe for you it was a parent, teacher, or coach that made a difference in your life. Give thanks to your mentor on this day because they’ll appreciate it and remember how proud they are to be your mentor.

No matter what your New Year’s Resolution is for 2016, we hope you take some time to participate in National Mentoring Month with us. We’d love to hear from you about your experience as a mentee, a volunteer, or partner. See you online!
