iMentor NYC's First Day Of Service

On Saturday, January 28, a group of iMentor students, their mentors, and waiting-to-be-matched mentors gathered at a community center in Queens for some good old-fashioned community service.

For our first community service event, we invited iMentor students from one of our partner schools in the Bronx, The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology, so they could gain experience giving back—and earn some community service credit for resumes and college applications too. Meanwhile, new mentors had the opportunity to learn from current mentors and students as they wait to be matched with their own mentees. Everyone met at Woodside Community Center to paint hallways with Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit that specializes in building/home rehabilitation. They provided us with gear, instructions, and an afternoon of fun!

It was a productive day for students, volunteers, and community center staff. And of course, no iMentor event is complete without a shared meal…of pizza. Check out all the photos from the day here.
