iMentor NYC Speaker Series – An Evening with Commissioner Gregg Bishop and Aaron Holiday

As iMentor headed back to school this past month, we kicked off the year with some words of wisdom from leaders in the NYC community. We were thrilled to host our first iMentor NYC Speaker Series event on August 30th! This fireside chat-style event featured Commissioner of Small Business Services, Gregg Bishop, and Co-Founder of 645 Ventures, Aaron Holiday. Mentors, iMentor supporters, and friends came together at Teach for America for an evening of community learning and conversation about the strength of effective mentors in our communities, diversity in education, tech spaces, and business, and tips for strong leadership.

It will be hard to top our first Speaker Series event, but we are looking forward to more throughout the coming months. Through this series, we are connecting inspiring leaders in NYC with the iMentor community to share expertise about education, college success, mentorship, challenges facing our young people, and shared values. With quarterly events tackling issues important to our community, we will continue to inspire our mentors, friends, and students to serve each other and NYC in a way that is thoughtful, collaborative, and forward-thinking.

As Commissioner Bishop stated, “To be an effective mentor, you have to be integrated into that person’s life. You won’t be an effective mentor unless you understand what makes that person tick. The only way to find that out is to be a consistent presence in their life. If anyone ever questions if they can be a good mentor, YES you can.”
